The Sarcophagus is the resting place of Merceus MkI. It has orbited the system's sun in a dormant state for several thousand years, waiting to be once more awakened, or perhaps awaiting until the system is at its weakest before it attacks.
The Sarcophagus is an enormous construct the size of a particularly large moon, and is comprised of a large number of horizontally flat square layers, slowing rotating around a single plasma core. Each layer of the Sarcophagus rotates in the opposite section to the previous layer. The entire thing is covered in untold amounts of artillery and force fields, glowing an eerie green from the plasma core within, in stark contrast to the black semi-reflective colouring of the layers themselves.
